Hey Everyone!!!
Well its been another way good week, here in the Calumangan Ward. We had a total of 53 members at church, and 5 investigators.(1 Family; 2 Parents, 3 Kids under 8) But either way it was a big success cause this family is really progressing. I was surprised when the showed up cause when we visited them on Friday, they said they probably wouldn't be able to make it. When they walked in i was way surprised i stopped in the middle of my lesson to the preisthood. So that really is the biggest success of the week. But there were alot of other entertaining things.
At 1 PM yesterday, when people were supposed to be showing up at church... No one was... By 1:05, 9 people were at church. all under the age of 20 and all but 2 were girls... ya.... it was sad, anyways about 5 minutes later, the guys working on our church showed up. So we decided to start with out people, because... well no one was there. So i'm standing there looking at the class, and i realized that only 2 out of the 7 people speak ilonggo.. we had one who spoke cebuano, one who spoke chebakano, who who was tagolog, we had elder peterson for english... I was a bit nervous.. Luckily at that point people started to show up. So i just taught in Hilagaynon. Mostly everyone understood. They just answered all my questions in the other languages.
The other one is we went to visit our elders quarom president, and when we got there he was having a huge neighborhood party. A fiesta. It looked like fun... other than the fact that they were having a catholic mass in the back yard... but thats not the funny part. we we're standing in the door way, probably 25 to 30 yards from the guy who was preaching... when he saw us he said, (interupting his sermon) "Ay Kano" which pretty much translates, to "Hey, Everyone look at the white guys" I walked out of the door thinking you have got to be kidding me... It was way embarasing... then the next day we went back, and the party wasn't over (24 hours later) They were getting ready for their "YEARLY PAGEANT"... Ya it was a gay pageant... we didn't stay to watch even though our member was fairly insistant that we join the party. I was just happy he wasn't drinking.
This last couple of weeks i also got the chance to eat Balut, That is those half formed duck eggs. It wasn't to bad. My companion, who has eaten before, took it worse than i did haha. He said he almost threw it up. It was pretty funny. I just cracked it open took out the chick and shoved it in with out looking... it was more crunchy than i would have liked... but i could eat it again.
That's about it for this week, we did teach a lesson in a house that looked like it was out of dr suess. That was cool. and i got a chance to watch a little bit of the "Jimmy Neutron" Movie.. The problem is it was in Tagalog. I think i'm going to watch alot of movies in Tagalog when i get home. It just makes it so much more funny!
